2 TO 3 YEAR OLDS
Soccer Shots Mini is a high-energy program introducing children to fundamental soccer principles, such as using your feet, dribbling and the basic rules of the game.
Through fun games, songs and positive reinforcement, children will begin to experience the joy of playing soccer and being active.
In case of weather cancellations Soccer Shots will do 3 things:
1. Send you an email up to two hours before the session. (please check your spam inbox as your email provider may not recognize our @soccershots.org email)
2. Post a weather cancellation to our Facebook page (Soccer Shots Ocean County).
3. Post a weather cancellation to our website (www.soccershots.org/oceancounty).
We only post cancellations
We do not post anything like, "This storm looks like it's going to pass, soccer is on for tonight".
If you do not hear from us via email, Facebook or website then soccer is not canceled.
Please do not call us or email us for updates
We serve about 1,000 children this season and that is just too many phone calls to handle.
We love you and we will let you know if it's canceled. We have children of our own and are involved in other sports and we understand your desire to know as soon as possible.
If you don't hear from us and the weather looks inclement and sketchy
We will send our coaches to the field and make 'game-time decisions'.
We aim to play and keep your kids safe, so the coach will make the best judgment call.
In the rarest of occasions, you will receive a text message to notify you of last minute cancellations.
We do not cancel for field conditions.
Unless the field is closed by the parks department, we do not cancel for wet field conditions. Sometimes we will have to cancel a class even if the weather is very nice because the local park department has deemed it unsafe to play. We will notify you via email and
Facebook and in this event, since you may not anticipate a cancellation, we will text you.
AT DAYCARES & PRESCHOOLS
We communicate and make cancellation decisions with the director of your school and will communicate updates to you via email regarding makeup days.
What to Wear and Bring
Please dress your child in comfortable clothes and sneakers or closed-toe shoes.
We do not require cleats or shin-guards for our mini or classic classes (ages 2-5).
We recommend cleats (not required) for our premier class (ages 5-8).
We do require shin-guards for our premier class (ages 5-8).
Don’t forget a water bottle.
Soccer Shots will supply soccer balls and all other necessary equipment.
Parental Involvement & Expectations
It is our objective to create a safe environment where your child will experience soccer in non-competitive yet fun and positive way. Our ultimate goal is to hold the attention of all participants for the duration of each session, without the assistance of parents. This works best and is most quickly achieved (usually a few weeks into the season) when children trust and enjoy the Soccer Shots coach. We welcome your necessary involvement in helping your child engage in Soccer Shots and are including some helpful tips on parental involvement for the Mini and Classic-level programs this season:
Involvement During Mini Sessions (ages 2 to young 3):
Parental participation is encouraged for this age group. We encourage a decent amount of parental involvement for the Mini sessions so as to help the little ones feel comfortable in a new environment with new people. We ask that parents come into the playing field and walk through the games and drills that we do. This helps the kiddos to get the most out of the sessions and helps to avoid distractions and loss of focus. It makes for a really great time where everyone is involved!
Coaches will be engaging Soccer Shots players in games and activities. Our program and curriculum have enjoyed much success with young children, but the first few classes can be a bit of an adjustment period for the little ones. Please just keep this in mind and encourage them to participate, even if you have to come out onto the playing field and walk/carry them through it! It is age appropriate for kids (especially in the Mini group) to be distracted and need extra encouragement from parents and families members in order to participate and to listen to the coach. If your child "takes off" from the field, it is the parent’s / guardians' responsibility to bring them back to the field and help to get them involved once again. We also request your assistance in helping your child(ren) respect and preserve Soccer Shots equipment such as cones, goals, and rings.
Involvement During Classic Sessions (ages older 3 to 5):
For Classic-level sessions, we ask that parents be involved to the extent that their child is comfortably able to engage in the session. This often takes the form of holding your child's hand during the session if he/she is hesitant, or walking through the games if that is what they need to give soccer a try! That being said, some children do not require much assistance from parents to play the games, listen to the coach, stay on the field, etc., but we do find that parental involvement is helpful in instances where a child may need help staying engaged, following directions, etc. With patience and encouragement from everyone, it will help to create a positive experience for your child and your family.
It is age appropriate for kids to be distracted from time to time. If your child "takes off" from the field, it is the parent’s / guardians' responsibility to bring them back to the field and help to get them involved once again. With the Classic-level program, we also request your assistance in helping your child(ren) respect and preserve Soccer Shots equipment such as cones, goals, and rings.
Health & Safety on Soccer Island
We have been diligently working behind the scenes to modify our curriculum and current operating procedures to ensure a safe return. You will see our coaches making adjustments to our regular routine to continue to keep safety our top priority. Additionally, all coaches will complete a mandatory health and safety course before returning to coaching.
During our sessions your coach will:
Additionally, coaches will be sanitizing all equipment before and after each session and monitoring their temperatures daily. We will do our best to use smaller group sizes and/or larger field setups to allow for the distancing of participants and observers.
We are requesting that families attending in-person sessions follow these guidelines for the health and safety of other families and coaches:
